"My Celstar 8 with the Baader solar filter"

March 28, 2001

Below are some pictures taken with the Celstron Celstar 8. I used an Olympus OM-1 35mm camera attached to the scope via a Meade telextender. As you can see the Sun displayed a high number of sunspots during the week of 3/25-3/31, most notable was sunspot # 9393. This is only my second attempt at photographing the Sun. The film used was 200 ASA Kodak Gold print film. All images have been enhanced with Corel Photoshop and Adobe Photodeluxe.

"1/250 second exposure"

"
Sunspot #9373 shot with a 20mm eyepiece in front of the camera. On 4/2/01, Sunspot #9393 released the most powerful solar flare ever recorded (X20-class event). But #9393 was on the Sun's western limb, directing much of the energy away from the Earth "

"
This was shot with a yellow color filter. Unfortunately this did not improve the image."
